Yes, we have an ‘about’ page. Who doesn’t? But let me go into a little more depth here- this is a blog, folks.

How did Pinky’s get started?

Pinky's started with skill building. I owe so much gratitude to my fellow locksmiths for all the things I have learned and continue to learn, especially during the early years of working for other companies. Eventually, though, like many people who decide to start their own businesses, I wanted to operate the whole machine- the income, the expenses, and all the details in between. I wanted to rely on my own values and ideas to build something that not only worked for my family and I, but also allowed me to use my passion for locksmithing and problem solving to really help other people.

Its a big step from “want to” to “doing it”. While driving home on the freeway it occurred to me that a big pink van would be pretty noticeable in all the traffic. I would call it Pinky’s Locksmithing. Lots of people suggested calling it Pin-Keys, because wouldn’t that be clever? But nope, not today. Not clever, just pink. Why the long word “Locksmithing”? Because “locksmithing” is the name of the trade, and a locksmith is the tradesman.

I remember I was working for a locksmith company in another state. One day, as I was waiting in the company van for the boss to finish up inside with a customer, I saw a box on a shelf in the van. On the box was written “sell as new”. I opened the box; it was a bunch of used lock parts. I was really put off. It seems like a small thing, especially if something is in good condition, just to go ahead and use it as a new part… but then call it what it is- used, in like-new condition. So sell it for the normal price, surely it’s worth that… but don’t say it’s new when it isn’t.

Little things had finally amounted to a full clog- and that box was the final “little thing” for me at that company. I needed to be surrounded by honesty and realness instead of sucking up to people I didn’t respect so I could keep my 20%.

I switched into maximum entrepreneurial gear. With full support from my wife, we dove in together. Pinky’s was going to become a reality.

5 years later….Follow this blog and find out how much of a reality we are!
